Why I hate the word "Crone"

As I worked on the Wise Woman Coaching program with my brilliant mentor, Meg, the concept of maiden/mother/crone kept arising. And I kept avoiding it. Ignoring it. Irritated by it. Pretending there was another way of identify the life stages of women. And I’m sure there is, I know there is. But something about that repulsion also intrigued me. Why so much disgust? What is it? What about the combination of those 5 letters makes my skin crawl? Finally, it dawned on me… I HATE the word “crone” and all that it connotes.

Upon looking up the actual definition, I understood why I intuitively disliked the use of the word. According to a Google search, “crone” is defined as “an old woman who is thin and ugly”. Merrimack-Webster is no more kind, “a cruel or ugly old woman”.

Sheesh.... is THAT what we’re destined for as we age? No wonder aging is so despised by women. Who wants to be regarded in such a negative way? With a cynical backstory like that, it’s no wonder society is so unkind to women as we get older.

As I am prone to, rebellion kicked in. I decided to turn that terrible concept on its head. I’ve decided to claim the POWER and MAJESTY that women can step into as they grow wiser and more experienced with age.

I created the concept of maiden/mother/manifestor. MANIFESTOR. Ahhh, yes, THAT is much more aligned with the truth of women’s brilliance and wisdom as we age. MANIFESTOR. That sinks into my soul like a feather drifting with grace to the ground.

I pondered this more and thought about the incredible amount of wisdom and experience that is gathered from life experiences as we age. I realized that if we’ve done our personal and spiritual work, as we get older, we care a whole helluva lot less about what others think. We get more clear on our own voice, our own authentic expression.... we tap into the wisdom of our OWN truth and that of our ancestral lineage. We become a conduit of information and wisdom that flows from past generations into the present moment and through us.

Sitting with that awareness, I contemplated the concept of maiden/mother/manifestor. MANIFESTOR. Ahhh, yes, THAT is much more aligned with the truth of women’s brilliance and wisdom as we age. It softens my hackles like the kiss of warm rays of sun on my face.

In *growing* older, we increase our ability to be detached from the insecurities and worries of our youth, disconnecting from the “shoulds” and societal dictates, letting go of the concerns about what others will think. In those moments, we begin to manifest - or create - a new reality. We begin to create and walk (or skip!) a life path that is more inline with our highest good....and our most authentic self begins to emerge.

We learn to stop “efforting”, stop trying to follow the patriarchal, masculine model and start realizing that our power to create from feminine flow is our birthright and that it was always there, just waiting for us to tap into it. Like a current in the ocean, we step into our divine feminine and get swept up in the energy... manifesting becomes effortless and natural.

THIS is the work of Wise Women Coaching. This is the TRUTH that I help women of all ages step into for themselves....and for the world. In being our most fully, authentically expressed self, we being to shine our light into the world. And the world needs you to shine. I need you to shine. We all need to shine for each other.
